Welcome to Alberta Rose Alpacas, located just 20 minutes North of Edmonton, Alberta just off Highway 2, West of Morinville.
Prior to being involved with Alpacas, Bob worked in the construction industry and Lauraine worked as a school secretary in Morinville for many years.
We (Bob & Lauraine Bijou) have been raising Alpacas since 1995, and we love it. From the moment we first saw them, we couldn’t resist the cute, cuddly creatures that have captivated our hearts. Over the years we have built up our herd to include the prize champion winning alpacas we have on our farm now. We have truly enjoyed working with these beautiful animals over the years, a life style we would not have traded for anything. We are incredibly proud of our quality herd which now consists of about 60 alpacas.
Spring is a very enjoyable and busy time on our farm. The alpacas are shorn at the end of April or early May, the fibre is then sorted and sent to the mill to be processed into yarn, and a variety of other products – ex: Alpaca socks, duvets, blankets, scarves. Everything is processed here in Canada. In May the crias (babies) start arriving and this is just a delightful time of year with all our newborn crias. There is nothing quite like watching them pronging (running) at dusk – they run in a group one behind the other from the pasture down the lane to the barn – it’s just beautiful to see! Sometimes, the Moms even join in.
Our years of experience in the business have taught us so much and we are constantly learning more. We are always willing to share this information.
For many years we have been involved with the preparation of the Alpaca Odyssey Show at Northlands and also the A.L.P.A.C.A Spring Show. The satisfaction of holding and attending an Alpaca Show is very gratifying. We are very involved in the Alpaca Community.
Many enjoyable hours have been spent in our pastures visiting with our alpacas and discussing our breeding program which we are always striving to improve. We breed for superior traits in fibre with low micron, perfect conformation ( good bone and a phenotypically good looking alpaca), excellent temperaments, Moms, with an abundant milk supply and easy breeders.
